Lately, I’ve been thinking of having my own website. Since I’m going to graduate from college next year, I figured I might as well start my own website where I can build up on my portfolio. I’m thinking of making random web applications but Kai complained about me having consumed the most bandwidth among all of us. Well, she didn’t really complain but I thought I should just get my own website so I can do anything that I want with it.

As for this blog, I’m still figuring out what to do with it. I’m pretty sure I’ll start another blog on the new website that I’m going to get so I won’t be able to spend much of my time writing here. One idea that I’ve thought of is to keep this blog and post different stuff here, but then I thought about Kai finally putting her small startup in motion. If that happens, I might just post here stuff about what I’m doing on the job.

I’ll keep you posted. I won’t be writing new stuff here, at the moment, though. I need to focus on my other priorities right now.

I hate high school. When I was still in high school, I was always included in the list of students who got the lowest mark in almost every class that I have. I’m not saying it’s because I’m stupid. Well, maybe that reason applies to some of my classes but the main reason why I always get low grades is because I hate all most of my classes. I have a strong belief that a class should be fun first so the student will learn. Unfortunately, I find all of them to be boring. I even hated my computer class. Back then, I was always looking forward to the day I graduate from high school and enter college because I thought that since I’m going to take a Computer-related course, I’d be motivated to learn and have fun at the same time…Read more

The other day, I came across this thread on a forum that I’m lurking on. It reminded me of how I was literally asking the same question a few years ago. I’ve only been programming for a while (3 years isn’t considered long is it?). When I was still starting out, I have never been able to grasp programming for the first few months. Most of the time, I was even copying my classmate’s code just so I could have something to submit to my professor. That made me wonder why I don’t get how to program while some of my classmates seem like they’ve been doing it all their life even though we’re attending the same class, listening to the same discussion and looking at the same professor…Read more

A few months ago, I had a talk with my mentor. I mentioned to him how hard it is for me to learn the advanced stuff in programming. What he said made an impression on me: “Isn’t that good? Everyday, we realize that there’s still a lot of things we don’t know and we need to learn. It’s exciting!”. When he said that, I asked myself how he can be that modest even though I know that he already knows a lot when it comes to programming. That thought kept floating in my mind for a long time.

A few weeks later, I noticed how some of my acquaintances behave when it comes to expressing what’s on their mind. They are either very vocal or silent when arguing about what they know with other people. People who are very vocal or confident about their thoughts tend to know little about what they’re talking about at all while the silent, modest types tend to be the actual ones in the know. Ever since I made that observation, I’ve been very conscious with speaking my mind…Read more

Programming Newbie: Why you should avoid using visual/drag-and-drop editors

No matter how long you’ve been programming, I’m pretty sure you’ve come across IDE’s at one point in your life. If you’re really new in the coding scene, IDE stands for Integrated Development Environment. Basically, it’s a compilation of all the tools you’re going to use in programming into 1 software application.

Some IDEs implement a visual/drag-and-drop editing feature. It’s a pretty nifty feature since being able to see what your application will look like in advance can save you a lot of time. While it has a lot of advantages, visual editors could be more disadvantageous than advantageous for newbie programmers. Let me list a few reasons why: Read more

If you’re enthusiastic when it comes to programming, you’ve probably taught yourself several programming languages, concepts and principles. You’re probably reading a book about programming right now. I’m not saying it’s a bad thing since exploring is a great habit when it comes to programming. I’m pretty sure no programmer will ever leave this stage in their programming endeavor since programming is a never-ending learning process.

Let’s say you want to learn how to program in C++. You grab a book like Sams Teach Yourself C++ in 21 Days and start coding all the examples found in the book. So you’ve just finished reading the book and coding all the examples found in it. You probably know how to make basic applications using C++ while still looking at the past code examples for reference by now. You want to learn more but the book simply doesn’t have enough information to answer all your hanging questions. You try to look at tutorials, documentations and other similar stuff online but they’re either too simple or too complex for you to understand. Now what?..Read more

Hey guys! I’ve been reading a lot of articles and blogs about programming and that got me thinking. Why not start blogging about programming? I’m no expert in programming but I definitely love doing and talking about programming. I’m pretty sure sharing my experience as a newbie programmer can help other newbie programmers in their adventure in the world of programming…Read more

Even though I said I was back in my previous blog post. I became pretty busy so I didn’t have any time to post in my blog. Well, not really. I was just too lazy to think of new stuff to write here. Recently, I reflected on what has happened to me during the time I was away and I realized that I tend to lose motivation easily. I start doing something expecting it’ll turn out to be something big but then I lose the motivation to do it after a while because nothing really happens. That’s the same thing that’s been happening to me in programming and music games. I’m beginning to lose motivation because I haven’t been seeing any improvement on my skills lately…Read more

This was the hardest song in O2 Jam Philippines until it was released commercially, specifically, during the Closed Beta and Open Beta Phase of the game. I remember 4 years ago when no one could finish this song on Hard and everyone just plays this song for fun because we all thought this was insanely hard. Now, I just get annoyed when I don’t clear the song with a Full Combo. I also like the song, for some reason…Read more
